Arrival and First Impressions
It was a dreary afternoon, and after spending time on a craft project at home, I realized it was nearly time to meet up with the girls. This week, it was just Terri, Britt, and me, since Jan was away on vacation in Arizona. I’m not sure exactly when she’ll return, but her absence meant we had the chance to try something different.
I suggested we visit a dive bar, motivated by my desire to explore these casual spots while my mom is out of town. Our ongoing quest for the perfect wings has shown that the best ones often come from places like this. For clarity, a dive bar is typically a small, unglamorous, and often dimly lit establishment with a relaxed, local atmosphere, cheap drinks, and a loyal crowd.

Upon entering, my first impressions came quickly. The bar was brighter than I recalled, and there was a distinct smell—old sewer mixed with hints of stale smoke. The clientele seemed older, with many senior patrons occupying the space. While we might not be considered “spring chickens” ourselves at ages 84, 62, 57, and 39 (though I won’t say which one I am), we certainly don’t give off the impression of being “old women” to those around us.
, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Cappy’s Sports Bar offers a cocktail menu, even if their happy hour only provides a modest discount of 25 to 50 cents off each cocktail. While waiting for Terri and Britt to arrive, I ordered a Crownberry Apple—Apple Crown mixed with cranberry juice. The drink was delicious and set a positive tone for the evening. I liked this combination so much I had one when I went to see Maroon 5 the next night.
Our waitress greeted us, though she seemed to be feeling the weight of Monday—a phenomenon I’m beginning to think is real. Despite her mood, she was attentive and capable, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal.
The Girls Arrive & Drink Choices
Terri soon joined and chose Bailey’s and coffee, hoping the caffeine would help her stay awake, with a little something extra for a kick. After tasting hers, I couldn’t resist switching to the same—it was truly outstanding. The coffee was better than the average you’d expect from a bar, and pouring the Bailey’s in myself made it even more enjoyable.

Britt arrived and opted for a Blue Moon, a reliable choice. With all three of us settled in and our drinks in hand, we turned our attention to the menu, eager to order food since we were all starving.
Appetizer Disappointment
I was a bit disappointed to find out that fried pickles—my latest favorite appetizer, introduced to me just a few weeks ago—weren’t available on the menu. It was frustrating not to see any pickle options, especially since I’d been looking forward to them all day.
Food, Drinks, and Overall Impressions

Appetizer and Wing Selection
We decided to order mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, and, naturally, naked wings with sauces served on the side. Since I have a strong sensitivity to spicy foods, I always request sauces separately; however, jalapeno poppers are typically worth the discomfort for me. The appetizers did not disappoint—everything tasted delicious.

The use of plastic glassware and plates felt fitting for the casual dive bar atmosphere, though it was a bit off-putting. Regardless, the wings truly stood out as some of the best we have had so far. The garlic parmesan sauce found the perfect balance of garlic flavor with a subtle sweetness. Britt, however, was not fond of the Buffalo sauce, finding it too similar to barbecue for her taste, while Terri tried the Thai Chili, which was both flavorful and spicy—something I confirmed I would be avoiding.
Atmosphere and Company
One of the highlights of our girls’ night is catching up on the latest antics of my two-year-old great niece, Luna. Sharing these stories always adds a fun, personal touch to our gatherings. With good food, tasty drinks, and great company, I plan to head home early tonight, feeling satisfied and content.
Ratings and Final Thoughts
Overall, I would rate the food 4 out of 5, drinks 4 out of 5, ambiance 3 out of 5, service 4 out of 5, and price 5 out of 5. This brings my overall rating for Cappy’s to a solid 3 out of 5. It’s an ideal spot for locals seeking affordable drinks and excellent wings that are perfectly crispy.
