On May 4, we headed to Bierhaus, located near 8th and P in the Haymarket, for happy hour. Bierhaus specializes in German cuisine and has a good selection of German-inspired drinks and food.

When we arrived, there was some type of gathering or meeting happening with German beer enthusiasts. While it was interesting to see, it also made us feel a little out of place since we weren’t part of the group.
🍹 What We Drank
Terry ordered the Owl Lemonade Radler on draft, while I tried the Green Dryad, made with cucumber, mint, and vodka. Jan ordered the Man Behind the Curtain, made with jalapeño, vodka, and cherry, and Brittany went with the St. German Pilsner.
Everyone enjoyed their drinks, although the Green Dryad wasn’t really my favorite. For my second drink, I ordered the Millions of Peaches, which I enjoyed more.
🥨 What We Ate
The service was one of the biggest disappointments. We had to go up to the bar ourselves to order both drinks and food, and the appetizer menu was pretty limited.
We ordered the Prost Platter, which came with German sausage and Cheddarwurst. We also ordered the Bavarian Pretzel with beer cheese.
The pretzels were way too good, and the beer cheese was absolutely amazing. That was definitely the highlight of the food for us.
To finish things off, we shared a skillet cookie, but unfortunately, it wasn’t anything particularly memorable.

Would We Go Back?
Honestly, probably not. The drinks and food had some definite highlights, especially those pretzels and the beer cheese, but the service really brought the experience down. We don’t think we’ll be making another trip to Bierhaus—unless we’re craving those pretzels!
